What creature deserves the title of Australia's Cutest Animal? In collaboration with a number of Australia's top zoos and aquariums, and after receiving thousands of votes from the international public, attraction and tours provider Experience Oz has now found out.

Archer the Koala from Sydney's Featherdale Wildlife Park was named ‘Australia's Cutest Animal’ after an extensive voting process that saw over 3000 voters cast their lot to decide which of the native Aussiecreatures deserved to hoist the virtual trophy.  Featherdale's General Curator, Chad Staples couldn't be prouder of the little Koala he helped to hand-raise, "You’d think after working with animals for so long, you’d develop a thick skin but Archer is pretty special. He's had a pretty tough start to life but he's a real little fighter. I have to admit that I voted for him, who wouldn’t!”

9 other incredibly cute creatures also made the final 10 from a shortlist of 25, with nominees covering a diverse range of marsupials, amphibians, fish and birds, and showcasing all aspects of Australia's animal kingdom. Finalists also included the likes of Lucy the Wombat from Tasmania's Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, Quobba the Quokka from Western Australia's Perth Zoo, Sassy the Wombat from Tasmania's ZooDoo Zoo, and Gangis the Gang Gang Cockatoo from Western Australia's Caversham Wildlife Park, among others.

Experience Oz Marketing Manager Matt Hobbs said that the uniqueness of its wildlife was one of the main drawcards attracting overseas visitors to Australia, with animal-related attractions and experiences being at or near the top of foreign travellers must-see lists for several consecutive years.

“It seems appropriate that a Koala – one of the most recognisable of all Australian animals – won the vote, so congratulations to Archer and the team at Featherdale Wildlife Park,” he said.

Voting for Australia's Cutest Animal ran for 3 weeks on both social media networks and the Experience Oz website, and received votes from all over the world with voters having the opportunity to win a wildlife travel package to meet the winning animal in person.
