Scientific name: Platycercus eximius

Size: 30cm

Status: Common

Diet: Seeds, nuts, berries and cultivated fruits.

Habitat: Open grassy woodlands close to water.

Breeding: Nests in hollow tree cavities, lays 4-7 white eggs on a bed of decaying wood. Nesting between August to February.

The name Rosella was given by the early settlers on their journeys between Sydney and Parramatta, where they regularly saw them at Rose Hill. Their name was pleasantly corrupted from "Rose Hillers" to Rosella.
